Change in fortunes for Seaton Delaval

After suffering six league defeats in a row in the Northern Alliance Premier Division, Seaton Delaval were desperate for a positive result to pull them clear of the relegation zone.

They moved up to fourth from bottom when an improved performance earned them a 2-1 victory at Blyth Town.

Blyth had been enjoying a five-match unbeaten run prior to Delaval's visit and looked likely to extend it when Danny Beresford found the target.

However, a Stephen Howes leveller soon restored Delaval's confidence and their winner was put away by Stephen Anderson just before the interval.

Losing six games in succession has dumped Seaton Delaval into the basement of the Northern Alliance, but Nick Gray's side was unlucky to lose 2-1 against league leaders Wark at Wheatridge Park.

Wark increased their lead at the top to six points, but found it heavy going after Tony Lancaster fired them into a 40th-minute lead.

After 74 minutes Stephen Howes struck to put Delaval back on terms and they hit the woodwork twice as they put their highly-rated visitors under pressure.

The near-misses proved costly, however, and Wark snatched victory with a telling strike by Mark Campbell in the dying seconds.

Seaton Delaval's barren spell in the Northern Alliance Premier Division continued at the weekend when they played away at fellow Northumbrians Ponteland United.

There have been four drawn games in Ponteland's eight-match unbeaten run and another looked likely after 80 goalless minutes against visitors.

The match was evenly balanced in the first half with few clear-cut chances, although Craig Johnson went close for the visitors and Glenn Ford for the hosts saw his downward header well saved by Delaval goalkeeper Frazer Nairn.

Seaton Delaval edge nine-goal game

Heaton Stannington still occupy fourth place in the Northern Alliance Premier Division despite being beaten 5-4 by Seaton Delaval at Wheatridge Park.

Delaval were fired into an early three- goal lead by Carl Begbie, Stephen Howes and Nick Gray.

Replies from Heaton's Adam Donaghey (penalty), Kevin Carr and Edmore Murau restored parity and, when Delaval's fourth goal by Jeff Fuller was cancelled out by Lawrence McKenna, sharing the spoils seemed the likely outcome.

With only six minutes to spare, however, Fuller scored his second of the match to settle the issue.
