Corbridge enjoyed a last-ball victory over Bedlington to lift them out of the relegation placings in the Northumberland Premier League.

The Terriers showed plenty of bite as they notched up 203-5 in 50 overs, Paul Straker (60) and Graham Watson (60) setting the visitors' stall out with a century second-wicket partnership.

With the rain falling steadily the teams played on and Paul Newton (57) and Tristan Douglas (50) worked Corbridge into a position whereby the scores were tied with one ball of the match remaining.

Warkworth's inexorable march to the Northumberland Premier League title goes on, a six-wicket win at Stocksfield extending their huge lead by another point.

Stocksfield's decision to bat first looked to be well founded when they posted 192-9 and then had the leaders on 10-2, but that man Dan Younger did it again with an unbeaten century to keep his team flying high.

Alnmouth got themselves back on track in a run-laden match at home to Berwick. Ian Clough smacked nine fours and four sixes in a belligerent 92 that spearheaded the charge to a score of 309-5, and despite half- centuries from Martin Golightly and Rob Patterson the target proved too demanding for Berwick, who ended on 241-7.

Warkworth power on at the top of the Northumberland Premier League, their latest win coming against Corbridge. Martin Clark's five wickets pinned Corbridge down to 153, and then Chris Younger hit 46 as the leaders eased to a four-wicket win in the 42nd over.

Alnmouth stayed second, but they received a pasting from bottom club Blagdon Park and they are now 51 points adrift of the table toppers.

Mark Foster's 65-ball half-century set up Park's score of 216-9 and then Pirasannan Inpathurai (3-27) struck early blows from which Alnmouth could not recover.

Bates Cottages were right to fear the worst when they slipped to a demoralising opening-day Blue Flames defeat back in April.

Skittled out for 90 after Flames posted 212, to a man Bates worried for a season of struggle.

Fast forward to Saturday then, and it is not too hard to understand their philosophical reaction to narrowly missing out on a landmark scalp.

Schools from Cramlington and Seaton Valley took to the court in an inter-schools tennis tournament.

The winning schools were New Hartley (year three) and Shanklea (year four) and the event was the culmination of all the schools receiving expert coaching and taking part in one-day taster sessions.

Blagdon Park have an awful lot to do if they are to avoid relegation from the Northumberland League's Premier Division.

After being docked 40 points by the league they lost to Clara Vale by 30 runs on Saturday and are now 51 points adrift at the foot of the table.

Blyth are the other team occupying a relegation slot, after slipping down one place following a defeat against leaders Warkworth.
