A pensioner from Seaton Delaval is out of his home after an early-hours kitchen blaze.

The 80-year-old man was treated by paramedics at the scene after the emergency services were called to his bungalow in Wheatridge, Seaton Delaval, shortly before 4am on Saturday.

Fire crews from Blyth and Cramlington went to the incident and two firefighters dealt with the blaze.

The householder had left a grill pan on and was in another room when the fire broke out. A smoke alarm was triggered and he left his home.

His kitchen was left extensively damaged.

Paramedics treated the man for possible smoke inhalation. He was left shocked but was otherwise uninjured.
